Unconscious Flow is an interactive system that visualizes the unconscious relationship of two people communicating each other with two CG mermaids. I made a model in collaboration with a psychologist to measure and classify the psychological synchrony between two communicating persons. The heartbeats of the two persons are measured by the sensor on their fingers. And interactions occur according to the following model using the heartbeat and the position of each other’s hands. ・If the heartrates are high and their hands are close together, their coordination is high. ・If the heartrates are low and their hands are far apart, they are not interested in each other. ・If the heartrates are high and their hands are far apart, they are ashamed of each other. ・If the heartrates are low and their hands are close together, they are relieved to each other. The behavior of the CG mermaid visualize one of these states in which the two persons’ communication is. Picture 7 shows one scene of the interaction bewteen mermaid and viewers. This work was accepted and was hornorary mensioned at Interactive Art in Ars Electoronica.
