目標と歴史
京都大学ロンドン大学アート・サイエンス国際シンポジウム
平成29年9月１８日ロンドン大学ゴールドスミス校において山極壽一総長の基調講演のあと、同校と京都大学総合生存学館との間で研究協力・研究交流を推進することを目的としたMOUが締結された。8つの教育研究分野「八思」のなかに芸術（アート）を掲げている総合生存学館は、このMOUに基づき、関連活動を実質化しグローバルレベルで認知されるために、両大学間で理工系の学問分野とメディアアートなどの新しい芸術学問分野を結びつけていく。その具体的な活動として、アート・サイエンス国際シンポジウムを京都で開催し、教員や学生の研究交流を通じて、異分野融合の教育研究の推進の契機とする。本事業では、京都の文化・芸術・科学について、その魅力や価値を学術面から情報発信し、広く一般から認知されることを企図し、ロンドン大学ゴールドスミス校を中心とした英国の大学と、京都大学及び京都のパートナー大学が連携協力してアート・サイエンスに関する国際シンポジウムを開催する。大学の街であり文化都市でもある京都への大学からの
貢献としても位置づけられるものである。
